The new Scottish parliament now has the biggest ever pro-nuclear disarmament majority, matching the majority of States at the UN that support the ban, and with even more supporters in parliament than at the height of the Bairns Not Bombs campaign. (That campaign impacted on a generation for whom prohibiting all nuclear weapons and tackling climate justice is a no-brainer.)
As well as Scottish CND, campaigners from Secure Scotland, CAAT, FoE, STW and PSC and the ICAN partner organisations all support the MSPs in working for a Scotland who will:
• SIGN the TPNW that prohibits all nuclear weapons
• UPHOLD international law and HUMAN RIGHTS, and oppose GENOCIDE
• ACT FAST, fair, and safe on CLIMATE and ENERGY in Scotland
• WORK to increase resilience and COMMON SECURITY
• RESIST fuelling the technologies and tools for death, destruction, and repression
Monitoring Government
Scottish ICAN partner organisations aim to monitor and advocate for action on parliamentary and council support for the TPNW everywhere.
The Parliamentary Pledge
As well as your constituency MSP, you are represented by 7 regional MSPs and by entering your post code on this page you can see not only who represents you, but if they have signed the ICAN Pledge, or promised to before their election – it is a good place for you to start a conversation with them! In the last parliament, all Greens and all SNP did this, along with some rebels in other parties. It’s up to constituents to make sure the new MSPs do it now.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Whilst every care is taken to ensure accuracy, nuclearban.scot accepts no liability for any errors or omissions. Verify MSP’s details with the Scottish Parliament website. There was a new boundary map for the election in 2026. check your constituency at the Boundary Commission.
The Cities Appeal
Please check if your local authority has passed a resolution in support of the TPNW. Go to the ICAN list to start. European countries like Greece and Italy have succeeded in getting over 100 local authorities to do this, which adds to the pressure on nuclear complicit countries. In the UK, The Scottish and Welsh parliaments have already made this serious commitment, and if all our cities passed a resolution it would really build the case that these suicidal weapons are deployed in this country against our democratically and clearly expressed position, that they are threatening the world and putting us all at risk. To campaign for this in your own local authority, you can engage with other ICAN partners in Scotland by emailing hello@nuclearban.scot or any of the Scottish partner organisations listed on our site’s sidebar.
