NAE NUKES ANYWHERE! International Rally at Faslane 22nd September

NOTE CHANGE OF DATE, NOW 22nd September

March from the Peace Camp to the North Gate of Faslane Naval Base. Scottish CND, one of ICAN’s partner organisations in Scotland, would welcome you to join the working group, The aim is to to highlight the strength of support from many UN member states for Scotland, a country hosting nuclear weapons against its wishes and excluded from signing the Ban Treaty.

International campaigners are joining us and we really need to make this a huge event to show the level of international support and present a clear challenge to the UK Government to recognise the TPNW, enter negotiations and decommission Trident. We hope to see campaigners from every part of the UK converging on the site to say time for the UK to wake up and wise up.

SCND hope you will be part of that. The next full working group meeting will be at the SCND office in Glasgow (77 Southpark Ave G12 8LE) at 5.30pm on 9th March and we hope you can be there. If you are in one of the organisations listed below, please check that people in your organisation know about this and encourage their participation – please come yourself if you feel that you might be able to commit some time and energy.

Some people have already made some suggestions about what needs to be done. We need this to be a broadly based and inclusive process, with a committed and flexible working group and there is plenty to get on with between now and the next meeting, like getting started with organising buses, setting up workshops and meetings to promote NAE NUKES ANYWHERE, media suggestions, help with finding venues in Glasgow or Edinburgh for convergence centres, thinking about banner-making and a team to think creatively about decorating the fence, puppets and props, sounds and sandwiches, tea and transport! Please email the address below and let us know if you can offer help and or suggestions. We will also need hosts for International visitors, a guide book on Scottish disarmament, and work to ensure our parliamentarians join in when the speakers will all be the internationals!

The core event is the march and rally, but we want to ensure that other ancillary activities can be supported too.
